Dear Neighbour,

I was walking home from the election polls today when i saw your beautiful grapes! I want to offer you help in harvesting them, if you would like or need help. [give me a call if yes]

I live up the street, with a family of 6. Last year we processed a few hundred pounds of saurkraut! I am also an artist so I made you this card. If you already have plans for your grapes you can ignore this note.

Happy thanksgiving, and happy harvest!

~Sara

background is that we’ve had our first hard frost, & expecting another this evening. Leaves have mostly dropped, showing off remainder fruit hanging ready on trees and vines around the hood.
I’ve heard leaving grapes on the vine for a frost ups the sugar content? but if they are left too long after a frost they will rot on the vine. Also, that the sugar content of grapes actually prevents them from freezing at temperatures that cause the leaves to freeze and fall. Anyhoo… i’d like to save these grapes from rotting, so i dropped off this card and note for the residents (who look like they’ve been away for at least a week).

i wish i could use what you’ve got!

i rode the train from Buffalo, NY to Vancouver, BC: three days in the month of October.
i saw the words “2825 subject to a security agreement…” on a passing train.

1. trains are social and encourage communication between people who would not ordinarily have contact with each other. trains are lighter from an emissions perspective.

2. a dead spider, webs of legacy, security agreements from unseen structures, validate, replicate, unstoppable, hauling two mile shiny new cars. it is how you decided.

three bags of tea, gathered and dried, illustrated brown bags

Here we’ve got three teas for three people. The Sweet Gale was harvested in Temagami and dried on a wicker mat in the autumn sun. The Raspberry Leaf is organic from the Beehive House Garden where I live, and the Nettle Leaf is the first harvest of 2011 from an organic swamp on Vancouver Island, Yellow Point to be precise.

I cut the brown bags shorter, then reattached the wire for closing with paper tape from my tape collection. The paper bags were located in the Beehive House bag drawer (previously been used for un-roasted coffee).

Use what you got.

Using the famous silver paper/foil, recycled from the offset printing process. I have SO MUCH of this stuff, and it will therefore appear in future posts i expect.

Another item of note is the pink streamer from a bicycle tassel. I’ve been saving this for maybe 10 years, but never installed them on any bike, nor ever given them away. Truth is while I love them… they have become stiff with age and would not blow in the wind at all. So i cut it up. Feels good.

Also, a transparency with drawings of openings of all visible containers in my room. Random but present and contained herein.

Use what you got.
